Affordable Ethical Fashion in the Sales

I have said it many times before that if you are looking for affordable ethical fashion then the sales is a great place to buy it. Most ethical fashion doesn’t follow trends, but sets its own style so it doesn’t really go out of fashion.

As time goes by the savings get bigger and so if you have the nerve to wait for that piece that you really want you could bag yourself some really affordable ethical fashion in the sales. Of course you may also miss out, so it is up to you whether you take the risk. Anyway as the sales have been on for some time so there are now some fantastic bargains to be had.

Melissa shoes Affordable Ethical Fashion in the SalesI am a big fan of Melissa shoes especially the flats. I have a pair which I wear all the time and when they finally wear out, I would love to replace them with these which are (obviously) from the Vivienne Westwood Melissa collaboration.

wilmington Affordable Ethical Fashion in the SalesFinally for Mr S, I love this Timberland Men’s Earthkeepers® Wilmington Long Snorkel Jacket. Again great for camping. There are some really great bargains from the eco friendly Earthkeepers range in the Timberland UK store.

You can also find lots more affordable ethical fashion on the sales page at style is… Do you shop the sales early or wait to try and get a super bargain?

Six Items Challenge – Week 2

So here I am at the end of week 2 of the six items challenge. It has been a pretty busy week and I haven’t had the chance to spend much time thinking about what I wear and how to accessorise my chosen items in order to create a different outfit each day. I did manage to do something slightly different each day except one when I resorted to the easy outfit which I wore last week of just my ASOS printed trousers and t shirt. I also got the opportunity to wear some accessories that I have recently treated myself to a pair of earrings featuring Josephine Baker and a scarf from Accessorise.

This is my scarf  by Accessorise and my first ever attempt at wearing neon

052 Six Items Challenge Week 2

I got this scarf from Oxfam Online and the necklace is by ethical jewellery brand Made UK. 0631 Six Items Challenge Week 2

This beaded necklace is from People Tree and it is those black ballet pumps by sustainable shoe brand Melissa, perfect for the rain as they are plastic!

Thursday was a bit of an opt out on the accessories front but I am wearing shoe boots my my favourite ethical shoe brand Dream in Green.

This was the outfit I wore to my cousins birthday party on Saturday. I picked the scarf up in the week from a charity shop. The earrings are handmade using vintage bits by Lilygrace Originals.

Another simple outfit  - I definitely need more colour  next week.

Apart from doing the  challenge this week I have also managed to get some goodies from a quick dash into a charity shop in Bath (inc the scarf I am wearing above). Too bad I won’t get to wear the green lace dress and angorra jumper yet.

I also went to London for the fabulous ’How to be an Eco Warrioress’ event organised by Bi.itch Online. I will be blogging about it more on www.ethicalfashionbloggers.com.

I hope you are having a good start to the week. What have you been up to lately?

Six Items Challenge Update – Week One

I am now exactly one week into the Six Items Challenge which I am taking part in for the whole of July with Labour Behind the Label to try and raise awareness of the plight of real people working in the fashion industry and their struggle for better rights and working conditions. You can check out how the others participating in the challenge are getting on in the Six Items Challenge Blog.

This week hasn’t been too bad with the main challenges being the weather. Feeling cold in my choice of summery clothes and struggling to get clothes washed and dried ready to wear again, resulting in me resorting to drying a pair of leggings with the hair dryer, were probably the low points. On the plus side I managed to get ready pretty quickly each morning as I didn’t have much to choose from.

Her are my outfits for the week featuring the six items – a really old black shift dress and t shirt, a dress by Komodo, leggings from People Tree, Green Printed Dress from Monsoon and patterned trousers by ASOS Africa.

The necklace and bracelets were presents and the shoes are from sustainable shoe brand Melissa.

Now I have worn all of the basic outfit combinations once comes the challenge. I am going to need to get creative and imaginative with accessories this week in order to make some different outfits.

I hope that you have had a good weekend!

Lace Detail

031 Lace Detail

melissa shoes Lace Detail

Dress – Annie Greenabelle
Leggings – People Tree
Cardigan – Braintree Hemp
Shoes – Melissa
Necklace -Swarovksi Crystalized

I seem to go through phases with what I wear, one week it is ridiculously bright floral prints and another I can’t get enough of charity shop faux fur. This week has most definitely been all about lace detail for me. From my new Melissa shoes which have some very recycled plastic lace detail on them to my Annie Greenabelle dress with a lace print on it and my new Braintree hemp cardigan (one of my birthday buys) that has a kind of lacey crochet panel at the front.

I wore this outfit last weekend when Mr Style Eyes and I went camping in our camper van near Bath. Yet more exciting plans for this weekend, how will you be enjoying the sunshine?

BTW – I can’t remember if I shared my latest blog post for Oxfam Fashion about Charity Shopping for Your Best Colours. I have now anyway.

30 Days of Ethical Fashion – Melissa Shoes

Melissa shoes have earnt a name for themselves as one of the trendiest vegan shoe brands around. They are known for their brightly coloured moulded plastic styles and designer collaborations.

Probably the most well known of the designs is the Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon, a sling back high heel adorned with either a heart or wings. Other key styles include the Vivienne Westwood booties, wedge boots and classic flat ballet pump styles.

Melissa shoes are also sustainable. Although plastic is not always though of as the most eco friendly of materials, it does last better than many other materials and in the case of Melissa shoes is also partly recycled and recyclable. They are made in Brazil, in a socially and environmentally responsible factory, where waste and water is recycled as much as possible. Melissa shoes also smell good enough to eat.

I have a cream pair wedge style brogues from the designer collaboration with Alexandre Herchcovitch and never fail to get an admiring compliment when I wear them out.

You can buy Melissa shoes at Fashion Conscience.
