My Sustainable Outfits in 2012

I am feeling far too bloated and unhealthy from to much food and drink to do any outfit posts for the last few days so have decided to go for the lazy option of a round up of my favourite sustainable outfits for 2012.

But before that, just a little reminder about the ethical outfit competition running on my new website style-is.co.uk. I have only one entry so far so if you would like to enter, you could have a pretty good chance of winning these fantastic prizes which include

  • £100 of vouchers for Spartoo.co.uk
  • A Skunkfunk Handbag
  • 2 X £10 vouchers for Rock My Vintage

The deadline has also been extended to 4th January to give you a little extra time to put together and post your amazing outfit. You can find out the full details on how to enter here Ethical Outfit Competition.

Dress – Annie Greenabelle
Leggings – People Tree
Cardigan – Braintree Hemp
Shoes – Melissa
Necklace -Swarovksi Crystalized

I seem to go through phases with what I wear, one week it is ridiculously bright floral prints and another I can’t get enough of charity shop faux fur. This week has most definitely been all about lace detail for me. From my new Melissa shoes which have some very recycled plastic lace detail on them to my Annie Greenabelle dress with a lace print on it and my new Braintree hemp cardigan (one of my birthday buys) that has a kind of lacey crochet panel at the front.

I wore this outfit last weekend when Mr Style Eyes and I went camping in our camper van near Bath. Yet more exciting plans for this weekend, how will you be enjoying the sunshine?

BTW – I can’t remember if I shared my latest blog post for Oxfam Fashion about Charity Shopping for Your Best Colours. I have now anyway.

What to Wear in Spring? An Annie Greenabelle Dress

0391 What to Wear in Spring? An Annie Greenabelle Dress

Yesterday morning I mentioned on twitter how I was a little unsure of what to wear in this weather. We haven’t quite transitioned into full on summer or even spring when I feel confident enough to wear a dress without tights or leggings and yet by mid afternoon the weather has been beautiful to the point where I want to do nothing more than sit in the garden. Some of the suggestions included thin layers and tights or leggings.

I love sleeveless dresses whether it be summer or winter as I feel less restricted in them and when it isn’t quite warm enough to go bare armed or legged I can always throw on a pair of leggings (my favourites at the moment are from People Tree) and a charity shop cardigan.

On Sunday, we had family coming for dinner and I wanted to wear something that looked nice but was also really comfortable. This Annie  Greenabelle dress and these People Tree leggings were perfect. Both are made from Organic cotton which is nice and thick and really soft, lovely to wear.

What do you wear in this inbetweeny spring weather?

If you haven’t yet entered my ethical outfit competition, there is still time to do so. There is over £200 of ethical fashion to be won, it closes on Saturday!

Happy New Year – Welcome to 2012

Happy New Year, I hope you had a great time celebrating.

028 Happy New Year Welcome to 2012

Dress – Annie Greenabelle
Shoes – Alexandre Herchcovitch collaboration with Melissa
Earrings- Christian Dior

After all of the excitement and late nights of Christmas, Mr Style Eyes and I decided to have a fairly quiet New Years Eve. We did pop down the pub for a drink before dinner, unfortunately it was shut to prepare for the evening party so we ended up just coming home again. I wore my new Annie Greenabelle dress.

I tried doing a sort of beehive style in my hair. You can’t really see it that well from the picture but I think it looked a bit higher in real life. For next time though,  I think I might backcomb a little more. This was the first time I have ever backcombed my hair and I was concerned it would turn into a big frizz. I usually wear fairly natural make up but decided to try dark eyes, using a dark khaki colour eyeshadow. Again I think it looked much more obvious in real life. Perhaps I need to change the settings on the camera. I wore my favourite Christian Dior earrings bought for me by Mr S for our wedding (12 years ago).

102 Happy New Year Welcome to 2012

I spent most of the afternoon on NYE cooking. I made Jamie Oliver 5 hour lamb which is delicious. The beauty of this is that you prepare it then just stick it in the oven for 5 hours leaving you free to go off out. When you get back, it is cooked to perfection and you can just serve with crusty bread. The best bit, it has  a whole bottle of white wine in it! I also made a blackberry tart, my first ever at a pudding with homemade pastry. I was pretty impressed with the result although this particular recipe with marscapone was a little rich for me.091 Happy New Year Welcome to 2012

My daughter also made these Hello Kitty cookies with some cookie cutters, she got for Christmas.

Cardigan – New Look
Top – Really old (from Debenhams)
Shorts – DIY cut offs
Handbag – Spartoo
Boots – El Naturalista
locket necklace – vintage

On New Years day, we wandered into Bath for lunch at Cafe Rouge. It was lovely to relax over lunch with a few beers and even better no washing up! I wore my Christmas pressy from my mum which was a cardigan from New Look. Although I try to only wear old, second hand and ethical clothes these days, when it comes to pressies, it is not that simple. I always think I should be grateful for what I get. I though my mum did well this year with this cardigan from, I love the colours and pattern. New Look was given a top rating for its supply chain policies by Ethical Consumer in their buyers guide to high street clothes shops so whilst not actually an ethical fashion brand, they do show a commitment to providing decent working conditions for their overseas workers.

So here we are in 2012, I don’t really have any new years resolutions, I am kind of happy with things the way they are at the moment. I will of course be continuing with my pledge to only buy second hand, vintage and ethical clothing. If you fancy joining me, why not consider joining the ever growing Ethical Fashion Bloggers community.

I will  be training for a 10k run in eary 2012 though and possibly a half marathon later in the year. 2012 is already looking quite busy with lots of camper van trips, festivals and other outings.

I have also been thinking about this blog and ways to move forward for 2012. Is there anything that you would like to see more or less of on Style Eyes Ethical Fashion Blog?

What did you do for NYE? and what are your plans for 2012?

30 Days of Ethical Fashion – Annie Greenabelle

If I had to decribe the ethical fashion label Annie Greenabelle in just a few words it would be fresh, trendy and affordable. The latest collection is packed full of cute dresses which would suit most people. They are incredibly wearable with plenty of pretty prints and fun details to add a bit of interest.

In contrast to some ethical labels, this is definitely one that would work well for the teenage and younger girls that is not to say that it wouldn’t work equally well for an older 30 something like myself or anyone else for that matter, but the collection just fits well with current trends for those that want to be in fashion.

Annie Greenabelle is an ethical company through and through with a transparent supply chain. They use organic and fair trade fabrics combined with end of roll and reclaimed fabircs to add a bit of variety to the clothes.

At the moment they have some fabulous party dresses, vintage inspired skirts and jersey dresses which are great for everyday with prices starting at a bargainous £34. I would definitely recommend checking them out and you can currently get 30% off jersey dresses using the discount code JERSEY30 at checkout.

 What do you think?
