Organic Clothes

Organic clothing is chemical free and has been grown without the use of chemical pesticides. There are a range of benefits to buying organic cotton, hemp and bamboo clothing.

Organic cotton clothing will usually be certified by either GOTS or the Soil Association and whilst there is currently no organic certification of bamboo clothing, the bamboo is grown organically (without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers) and is generally believed to be a sustainable option. Key reasons to shop organic include:

Health – With organic cotton and Oeko Tex 100 certified bamboo clothing, you can be sure that the clothes contain no chemical residues or substances that may be harmful to health. Organic cotton and bamboo clothing is often recommended for children or adults with eczema or allergies and particularly for babies who have less developed immune systems and delicate skin.

Environment – pesticides are incredibly damaging to the environment polluting water and decreasing biodiversity. They are also toxic to both humans and animals.

Ethics – as pests become resistant to pesticides, farmers need to use more and more to get the same crop yields. This forces farmers into a spiral of poverty. Organic cotton not only avoids the need for and cost of pesticides but also guarantees farmers a better price for their crop and is better for their health.
