I had a post all ready planned for todays installment of 30 days of ethical fashion but when I found out about Livia Firth’s, Reclaim to Wear Line for Yooxygen I just had to drop everything and share this. I have been following Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge for some time and have been pretty impressed. There really is nothing like the power of celebrity to get people talking about something, she is doing a great job of putting ethical fashion in the limelight (of course it helps having lots of red carpet events to go to).
The collection is a collaboration with Reclaim to Wear, an organisation that unites designers, producers and distributors, allowing them to create capsule collections using recycled fabrics including discarded materials and remnants, such as stock, designer surplus and production off-cuts.The organisation was first introduced by From Somewhere, the pioneering eco fashion label started in 1997 by Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci. It is being sold exclusively at YOOXYGEN, the section of Luxury etailer, Yoox, that is dedicated to bringing environmental awareness to its users, by collaborating with a series of international brands, designers and talents.
There is just one style of dress in the collection, a strapless fifties inspired dress available in 5 neutral colours ranging from a grey/ silver to dark blue and navy. It is simple but really beautiful. It is made from Cooperativa Rinascere using recycled materials and fabric remnants. Livia wore this dress on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival with her husband Colin. She describes the dress as being ‘a piece that suits ever occasion and body shape.’
Unfortunately at £480 this dress is a little beyond my budget but still, so is most designer clothing but it is definitely inspirational. Lets hope that that the trend for recycling trickles down into the more affordable fashion brands, actually judging by some of the labels I have recently discovered I think it may well be already starting to. You can check out my 30 days of ethical fashion series here if you have missed any of it.
You can buy the collection from online luxury retailer Yoox here.
With warmest wishes

It’s a lovely dress and super flattering but definitely on the expensive side!
I love her Green Carpet Challenge, too, and also wrote about it. I admire when people use fame or access to it as an opportunity to do good.
